Life can get hectic, especially when you feel like you’re going non-stop. Luckily, de-stressing doesn’t have to take up even more of your time. With these quick ways to put things back into perspective, you’ll find a sense of peace in any situation.

Breathe Deep

If things are becoming too much to handle, step away and breathe slowly and deeply 10 times before stepping back into the fray. When you become stressed, your heart rate increases, making you feel anxious. With deep breathing, you force your heart rate to slow. This then tells your body to de-stress, resulting in a more relaxed feeling and clearer mind that can much more easily deal with any problem that may come your way.

Laugh

Even though things might be stressful, it doesn’t mean you can’t laugh. Science has found that laughing actually lowers cortisol levels, the hormone in charge of making you feel stress. A good chuckle also increases the release of endorphins, natural chemicals that make you feel happier. Crack open your favorite comic, turn on a funny video or chat with that coworker that always makes you laugh.

Move

When it becomes too much to bear, don’t forget to get up and move around. You don’t have to spend an hour at the gym to feel the benefits of physical exercise. Even a casual walk around the office or the block can help the brain flush out the stress hormones bombarding your body and mind. Whether you prefer a few stretches or a light bit of walking, few things make you feel more in control than moving your body.

Note Your Thanks

Stress tends to invite very negative thoughts that spiral out of control if left unchecked. Instead of allowing that to happen, be on top of reminding yourself of all of the good things that have happened recently. The stressful events of the day don’t have to cancel out the beautiful sunrise you saw this morning or the delicious lunch you got to enjoy. Focus on the good and you’ll begin to see that the things that are bad aren’t really worth that much stress.

Stress is a part of life but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Instead of allowing the little things to weigh you down, start practicing these quick fixes when it comes to lightening up challenging situations. While it might seem challenging at first, keep practicing and you’ll have a quick, practical technique to healthily deal with stress in no time.
