If things are becoming too much to handle, step away and breathe slowly and deeply 10 times before stepping back into the fray. When you become stressed, your heart rate increases, making you feel anxious. With deep breathing, you force your heart rate to slow. This then tells your body to de-stress, resulting in a more relaxed feeling and clearer mind that can much more easily deal with any problem that may come your way.


Even though things might be stressful, it doesn’t mean you can’t laugh. Science has found that laughing actually lowers cortisol levels, the hormone in charge of making you feel stress. A good chuckle also increases the release of endorphins, natural chemicals that make you feel happier. Crack open your favorite comic, turn on a funny video or chat with that coworker that always makes you laugh.


When it becomes too much to bear, don’t forget to get up and move around. You don’t have to spend an hour at the gym to feel the benefits of physical exercise. Even a casual walk around the office or the block can help the brain flush out the stress hormones bombarding your body and mind. Whether you prefer a few stretches or a light bit of walking, few things make you feel more in control than moving your body.
